Confessions Of An Overeater

My name is David and I over-ate on Thanksgiving Day. There, I’ve admitted it, and taken responsibility.

We had dinner at my sister-in-law’s with about 45 family members, two turkeys (not family members), two hams (ditto), and TEN scrumptious pies plus all the fixings in between. It was marvelous. Then, after dinner, we lay across the carpet like a herd of dozing walruses and watched the Nebraska Cornhuskers lose a game to Colorado. But I digress.

My topic today is how to recover from failure. For example, how to pick yourself up and get back on your diet without excessive hand wringing or guilt.

Did you know that successful people fail more often than losers do? It makes sense, right? They try more things, riskier things, and set their goals higher. So they fail more often, but they also succeed more often. Successful people take failures in stride. In fact, they learn from failures. They use their failures to adjust their strategies so that each failure brings them closer to a success.

Losers find failures demoralizing and shameful, so they adopt the only sure-fire way to avoid future failures. They give up.

In the posts below, I have outlined a couple of strategies to consider as you review the failures and setbacks in your life.

Re: Confessions Of An Overeater

Hi David, thank you for your words and for your honesty. Here´s a doubt: can I be an overeater without being fat? And what´s the main difference between overeating and bulima? I feel I´m in a dead end street and can´t find my way out. I´ve been here for over 10 years and feel so desperate. Thank you sincerely. Hope you can help me.

Re: Confessions Of An Overeater

When you say "10 years" and "desperate" it makes me think you need more personalized help than I can provide. You need some one-on-one assistance from a healthcare professional. There are many successful approaches to eating disorders, so take hope. Please get back to me after your first appointment, and make it soon.

David
